 "Tourism for All" project, represented by colleague Nada Ozeir, met with the Director of the National Center for Development and Rehabilitation Hanaa Fayyad, in the framework of promoting the quest for decent employment opportunities for people with disabilities in the tourism and services sectors, on 20 June 2017.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of holding a meeting for civil society associations of upper Shouf area at their center. In addition to adding the list of people with disabilities targeted by the center those targeted by the project; and a meeting for disabled youth. As well as monitoring the job opportunities available through joint visits to the companies and institutions of the region.

In the context of the definition of tourism institutions in the “Tourism for all project in Lebanon”, Nada Ozeir, of the project’s team, met with the director of the human resources department at Jbaili Company, Heba Haraki, in the presence of a number of employees at the Company's headquarters in the southern town of Ghazieh, on 13 October 2017.

During the meeting, our colleague Mrs. Ozeir, introduced the supporting committee for the “Tourism for all project”, and presented the current activities of the project. The two sides discussed the possibility of providing training periods for people with disabilities in the administrative departments of the company, as well as, enhancing cooperation to reach an agreement between both parties.

In the context of introducing the tourism institutions to the “Tourism for all project in Lebanon”, Nada Ozeir met with the manager f the "Beit Ward Restaurant" in Tyre, Mr. Sami Hijazi, on 13 October 2017, and discussed the mechanism of cooperation to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Throughout the meeting, the project was introduced and the activities carried out in Tyre; in addition, the manager was introduced to the cooperation agreement.

"Tourism for All in Lebanon" team discussed with the Directorate of the National Center for Development and Rehabilitation the cooperation and coordination frameworks for the implementation of a number of joint activities during a meeting held at their Center on 2 June 2017, in the presence of the Center’s Director Weam Hamdan. The aim of the meeting was to introduce the “Inclusive Tourism project” and to agree on a mechanism for the targeting of people with disabilities at the Sesobel Association, after agreeing with the organization.

 

The meeting, which was attended by colleagues Sylvana Lakkis and Nada Ozeir, introduced the activities of the Lebanese Physical Handicapped Union and the “Tourism for All project”. Hamdan, as well, introduced the center's activity, and the miniature hotel that includes its own activities and training of people with disabilities on hotel and tourist services.

In the framework of creating a platform to the launching of the “National Platform for inclusive Tourism for All in Lebanon”, and coordinating with the experts in the field of employment and marketing; a group from the "Tourism for All in Lebanon" project met with the President of the The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies Dr. Kamal Hamdan and Mr. Alexander Ammar at the institution on 2 June 2017. The meeting aimed to introduce the reality of work and its challenges, presenting the benefits and the misjudgments, and introducing the Inclusive Tourism project and the “Cooperation Agreements” with the companies and economic bodies, and the possibility of providing training or internship opportunities for people with disabilities corresponding to the Touristic sector.

At the meeting, which was attended by colleagues Sylvana Lakkis, Yasser Al-Ammar and Nada Ozeir, Al-Lakkis presented the history of LPHU’s work in socio-economic inclusion, cooperation protocols and partnerships with economic bodies, working with chambers of commerce and industry; in addition to displaying the project’s agenda and achievements. From his part, PhD Hamdan talked about the publications of his institution about studies on vocational training, and the presentation of cultural heritage project in Baalbek, Tyre and Jbeil, the old Souk that have gone through rehabilitation, pavements and roads, and stressed on the importance of paying attention to the requirements and heritage of each region. He also pointed to some professions that facilitate the creation of employment opportunities for people with disabilities, including cooking staff, administrative staff and tour guides.

The "Tourism for All in Lebanon" team visited “Shield” organization in Jwaya, Tyre district. They held a meeting with the coordinator of the association, Saeed Al Natour on 4 July 2017 to introduce the project and agree on a mechanism for cooperation and coordination for the implementation of vocational training in the Center in Jwaya.

At the meeting, Nada Ozeir introduced the project and the activities that were carried out in the district of Tyre. Al-Natour presented "Shield" and its activities. Shield has expressed its willingness to cooperate in the implementation of any training or activity, and to involve a group of people with disabilities in the planned vocational training.

The training includes computer training and English, in addition to a proposal to implement a course in marketing and social networking.

On June 2, 2017, the "Tourism for All in Lebanon" team met with SESOBEL administration to define the project and agree on a mechanism for cooperation and coordination to target people with disabilities in the organization.

In the meeting that was attended by the general director Fadia Safi and training manager Laila Zghaib from SESOBEL, as well as Ms. Sylvana Lakkis and Nada Ozeir from LPHU, the Lebanese Physical Handicapped Union introduced its projects and activities, pausing at its most important stops and work mechanisms in the regions. SESOBEL introduced the organization, which includes a mini-hotel, and where people with disabilities are trained, and undergo tourism service training and customer through two marketing companies.

SESOBEL has expressed its willingness to cooperate and coordinate with the LPHU to benefit the young people in the organization from the project services, as well as for partnership and coordination to provide a number of small projects to a group of people with disabilities within the city of Byblos. A number of tourism activities have been proposed.

The "Tourism for All in Lebanon" project team held a working meeting with the Association of Hotel Owners in Lebanon, headed by president of the syndicate Pierre Ashkar, on 29 June 2017, in order to coordinate and cooperate to develop an agenda for the hotels and put the syndicates in the picture of preparation and the work being done in the areas, in addition to consulting him regarding Beirut Declaration.

 During the meeting, attended by colleagues Sylvana Lakkis, Rona Dbeissi and Nada Ozeir, Al-Ashkar presented the reality of hotels in Lebanon; and the Gulf and European tourism. Al-Lakkis presented the work of the project and the motivational activities that are being implemented in the regions and discussed the kinds of exercises that should be implemented to facilitate the work of people with disabilities in the tourism sector. Then Al-Ashkar presented a detailed description of the types of competencies required, and pointed out that the education sector should be targeted to change cultures and prejudices. On the other hand, Al-Lakkis displayed the types of services provided by the project from planning, technical support and implementation supervision and follow up.

 The two sides also agreed to communicate with the hotels later, and coordinate on sending of a representative of the syndicate to participate in the activities of the project, in addition to preparing for a media campaign and targeting the education sector to change the reality and the existing culture.

October 11, 2017, Tyre cultural village hosted Nada Ozeir and Mohammed Khaled from the “Tourism for All Project” in Lebanon and the Lebanese Physical Handicapped Union, in the presence of the representative of SHEILD organization in Tyre, Wafa Wehbi; Safa Watfa and Ali Rifai represented Tyre Cultural village. The aim of the meeting was to introduce the project and agree on a mechanism of cooperation and coordination to provide training and work opportunities for people with disabilities. During the meeting, Tyre Cultural Village administration expressed its willingness to provide training opportunities for people with disabilities in the fields of pottery, glass engraving and jewelry design.
